Backgrounds App Reviews
I’ve been looking all over for a wallpaper app that allows me to have a webcam stream as the background on our mac; the regular video playing software doesn’t do video backgrounds on 10.10, and every peice of software I tried failed; many don’t even accept a url as the video. I emailed the developer, he did some tests, and within a couple days there was an update off to Apple. Today he took the time to email me to let me know the update was up. I installed it right away, put in a live stream, and now have live video of a famous local landmark right on the desktop! Total CPU usage: 1.2% Easy 5 stars: Does one thing, and does it perfectly.
Dynamic desktop backgrounds are cool, and so are the options to show system load and/or date/time. When showing seconds with time and blinking separators, the clock characters jiggle left and right. How about an option for Parallax mode to NEVER change the desktop image? I have only 1 photo in my Pictures folder and Change Picture set to “On launch”, yet the app still sometimes changes the desktop image to the first in Apple’s system “Desktop Pictures” set. One more thing… an option to stack the System dials vertically instead of horizontally (side-by-side) would be useful
I can't choose a background
I can't choose a background. All it does is make my background more interactive. Which is cool and all, but I wanted to go into the app and choose from the selection, which I could not. Clicked on it many times and it would fail to open. This is for my MacBook Pro. If this is not fixed or cannot be fixed, can I get a refund. Thank you
ALL-IN-ONE
PRO: Everything you could ever want in a “Live” Desktop Wallpaper app. CON: Uses a Significant amount of CPU resources (Not sure if this trait can be improved by Developer-or-Not, so I still gave 5 STAR Review). Thank you Mr. Lopez (Backgrounds) for taking monateny out of staring at stagnent computer screens all day and night (med. school student/now graduate).
Worthless
Just installed and cannot open subscriptions to order any background. Tried everything. Cannot reach support. All in all does not work on my Mini Mac. Too bad!!
Finding included backgrounds is not obvious

best video wallpaper app I've used...
this app works great at displaying videos as wallpaper, and ive used several other apps so far. the only bug I have found is that when I try to use the Music function, the app always crashes, so far deleting and reinstalling, resetting the app, changing settings, etc havent fixed the problem. Other than that, everything else works really well, if this bug werent there I'd say this was just about perfect!
Yes
Just yes.
Best one out there
Works as advertised. The only issue I have is using videos for the background. I can add videos, but everytime I delete a video, it still shows up on the list.
Great app
works well, great functions. Just have a small bug that some time the background in macos will works like a full screen picture which may block other apps if you bring it to front(it usually happened when it recovered from full screen mode).
Fantasic when used with Aerial Screensavers
I use Aerial Backgrounds to save beautiful live screensaver videos to a location where I use the Backgrounds Application to run through a playlist of the videos. The result is a beautiful moving and changing location that brings me on a trip around the world visiting new places every time I open my Macbook.
Need speed control for video wallpaper
I wish the developer can add speed options for video playback. A slow-moving video backgroud will be more suitable for more situations.
Good features, could use some fine-tuning
Dynamic desktop backgrounds are cool, and so are the options to show system load and/or date/time. 3/10/19 Enabling the option to show "seconds" in the clock or clock widget makes the clock not show on screen. Disabling it restores the clock. 3/12/19: Can't reproduce the problem, seconds now display correctly in both Clock Widget and Clock. One more thing… an option to stack the System dials vertically instead of horizontally (side-by-side) would be useful. 3/10/19 update: Vertical stacking option works nicely! Thanks
Love the App
I was looking for an app that would play something in the background (Live video) and found this app. It’s a bit different in understanding how the preferences work. Just needs some cleaning up in my opinion but don’t take it for a grain of salt. I love the app and for the price of $1 I would have happily paid $5 for it. Plays videos in the back and did a lot more than I anticipated. The one real big thing I wish it had was more example videos. Developer or Developers please use some of your own videos I think that would be a nice touch to your app! Thank you for your time reading this.
It’s great but...
I love this for video wallpapers but when I have a video on and play music from itunes it changes the video to the album art. Please change it’s a bit annoying, but other than that this is the best dynamic wallpaper app out there
Things Don’t Work
Even though it’s set to start upon login (which it does), in order to get the Time Theme to appear, I have to manually go in and change it to something else and then change it back to time every single time I log in. The Time Widget doesn’t appear at all.
Having trouble importing video
Hi, would anyone care to explain to me how to import my own video? I’m trying to import an mp4 file into video but Backgrounds won’t allow it.
It keeps playing one video
The playlist of videos won’t work. It keeps playing the same video over and over again. Try to fix it but can’t find a solution.

心碎啊💔
Works well, but kicks on dedicated GPU :-(
This app works VERY well! The ability to upload my own videos is great. However, the one flaw is that it should NOT be used on a laptop when on battery power. At least on my 2016 15” MBP, when the app is launched (no matter what mode in the app is used), it will turn on the dedicated GPU of the MBP. It really should be able to run with just using the integrated Intel Iris Pro and leave the AMD dGPU out of it. Otherwise, a great product!
Works as advertised
My favorite thing is that it doesn’t compress video if you choose a video as a wallpaper, so my native 4k videos don’t get degraded.
Love It!
Great App! The simplicity yet perforamce and customization is impressive! Nice job! XB
